Simple Assault - Aggravated Assault
Simple assault is an unlawful attempt to harm another person, punishable by up to 6 months in county jail and a $1,000 fine.
Aggravated assault involves using a deadly weapon, firearm, caustic chemicals, or force likely to cause great bodily injury, including assaults on school personnel.
It is a wobbler offense, meaning it can be charged as a misdemeanor (up to 1 year in county jail) or a felony (up to 4 years in state prison).
