Grand Theft Auto/Joyriding

Grand Theft Auto (GTA) occurs when someone steals a vehicle with the intent to deprive the owner permanently or for a significant period, without permission.

• Felony: 16 months to 3 years in county jail and/or $10,000 fine.

Joyriding is the unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle without permission.

• Misdemeanor: Up to 1 year in county jail and/or $5,000 fine.

• Felony: 16 months, 2 years, or 3 years in county jail and/or $10,000 fine.
