Hate Crimes
Hate crime involves interfering with someone's civil rights or damaging property due to their disability, gender, nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.
This is a wobbler offense, meaning it can be charged as:
Misdemeanor: Up to 1 year in county jail, $5,000 fine, and up to 400 hours of community service.
Felony: 16 months, 2, or 3 years in county jail and/or fines up to $10,000.
