Kidnapping

Kidnapping involves moving a person a substantial distance without consent.

Penalties depend on the circumstances:

• Standard kidnapping: 3, 5, or 8 years in state prison and a fine up to $10,000.

• Aggravated kidnapping (victim under 14): 5, 8, or 11 years in state prison.

• For sex crimes: Life in state prison with the possibility of parole.

• If the victim dies or is at risk of death: Life in prison without parole.
